About Digital Literacy Program...
The Digital Literacy Program is a FREE program offered by Miramichi Adult Learning Inc. in partnership with the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labor. Our computer workshops are ideal for people wishing to improve their basic computer skills. Our program is offered throughout Northumberland County.
What We Offer...
Our digital literacy workshops provide learners with basic and intermediate computer skills. In particular, we help students understand the various technologies that are increasingly present in our daily lives, such as touch screens, smartphones, tablets and digital cameras. We also teach them how to use a keyboard and a touchscreen. In addition, an important part of our program is to introduce learners to the Internet. We teach them how to connect to the Internet, surf the websites, use search engines such as Google, use social media, and ensure the reliability of information sources. We also focus on the multiple benefits of having an email account and explaining to learners how to use e-mail. The program also covers the most common software used at home and at work, including word processing software (Word), presentation software (PowerPoint) and spreadsheets (Excel). Finally, a major part of the program is to educate learners about the risks and threats to the security and privacy of the computer and how they could prevent them.
